Living Learning Communities, Themed Housing & Academic Learning Cohorts.


First-year Learning Communities

We want to help you build a community and make connections at the U. As a new student, you can be a part of a cohort. A group of students working through the same curriculum.

You can also study in a living/learning or themed housing, with a group of students interested in the same topics, working through courses in the classroom, and participating in extracurricular activities outside of it. It's a unique way to maximize your college experience!

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) and Themed Housing, help students complete their general education requirements and make progress on their degree of choice by engaging in required courses.

Kahlert Village Living Learning Communities (LLC) and Themed Housing.

Home to over 1,400 first-year students. Kahlert is centrally located on the East side of campus. Near the Student Life Center, Marriott Honors Community, Huntsman Center, and Fort Douglas TRAX stop.

Kahlert Village Community Empowerment Scholars
If you are a first-year student looking to create a community with fellow peers of all backgrounds, Community Empowerment Scholars Living Learning Community is for you.

The High Impact Volunteer Engagement (H.I.V.E) LLC will allow students who are interested in community engagement to further explore opportunities through curricular and co-curricular high-impact volunteer engagement experiences.

The Honors College LLC creates a small network of Honors students who take one or more required Honors course during their first year of college.

First-year science and mathematics majors are invited to apply to the College of Science First Year Community located in the STEM tower. Residents will find support and connections among their peers and additional opportunities to engage with the College.

If you’re a first-year student who is hoping to pursue a degree in Engineering, the College of Engineering First Year Floor located in the STEM tower is an excellent option for you. Residents in the Engineering Floor work together to support each other through the rigors of their courses while deepening their connection to the College of Engineering faculty, staff, and opportunities.

Considered the “soul” of campus, this living-learning space will prepare students to become thoughtful global citizens committed to enriching the lives of others. Located at the heart of campus, the Epicenter boasts 360 mountain views and offers easy access to classes, dining, recreation, and more.

The Impact Capital Community invites students to live among peers interested to learn methods that utilize capital to create lasting impact.

Officer's Circle Living Learning Communities (LLC) and Themed Housing

Officers Circle (OC) is a unique community comprised of 10 individual houses with a different academic or themed focus. The OC houses are close to the Peterson Heritage Center, and the Eccles Legacy Bridge, making access to the campus easy and convenient.
